Local Love: Redwood & Co.
Redwood & Co. is quite a lovely store, located downtown at 10 E. Beverley St, it is even more lovely during the holidays. Owner Mark Wilkinson and his staff do a phenomenal job decorating the shop and the windows with holiday cheer. Redwood & Co. is a home decor shop featuring their own brand of soaps and lotions as well as a variety of home decor items, textiles, furniture and fixtures. Mark opened in October of 2015, he says he was looking to
expand a soap and lotion shop he was running in West Virginia and being
from this area, Staunton looked like a great fit. Mark and his partner
felt a great vibe, that it was the right time, close to family and so
they made the move.
With the holidays approaching, the store looked truly Autumnal on my recent visit where I had a chance to chat with Mark and get to know him a little better.
Mark, what is your favorite thing about being a small business owner in downtown: I get to meet and interact with the locals, Staunton visitors, we have a variety of customers, my fellow business owners and neighbors.
Do you own a home in Staunton and what are a few things you love about your home: Yes, it's near Gypsy Hill Park, a 60's ranch with great bones. We modernized it, put our stamp on it. It's now super cozy and we can walk to the park and downtown.
The things you love most about your job: My creative freedom, working with my customers, stagers, designers and getting to stage homes.
Current read: Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstances by Ruth Lang
If you could have dinner with any two people, living or dead, who would it be and why: Eleanor Roosevelt and Madonna. Both are incredibly strong women.
If there's a recurring theme in your life, it is: Never give up.
I care deeply about: Helping people succeed.
Today is: Great, it's my foster son's 1st birthday. I have two foster children, my other son is 8, it's challenging and amazingly rewarding.
Guilty pleasure: Pizza! I could eat it everyday of my life. (Me too, Mark, me too.)
